According to overseas media reports, Taiho Biotech Cosmetics partners with 60% of the world’s top-tier beauty brands. Industry sources claim it ranks as the second-largest cosmetics manufacturer globally, only behind Italy’s OEM giant Interlux. Financial records show the company posted an annual revenue of 1.327 billion yuan in 2017, a testament to its considerable scale.
In the Chinese market, many iconic foreign beauty products are developed and produced by Taiho Biotech Cosmetics, including Yuxi’s powder blushes, Maybelline’s eyeshadow palettes and liquid eyeliners, as well as Sephora’s concealers. It also maintains partnerships with local Chinese brands Galan and TST.
In November 2019, Taiho Biotech Cosmetics Group announced a long-term strategic cooperation with MINISO in mainland China. Leveraging MINISO’s extensive global distribution network, the two parties jointly distribute Taiho’s multi-brand cosmetic lines. This collaboration helps boost product exposure, optimize product portfolio planning, drive overall sales growth, and capture market share across nearly 100 countries worldwide.
4. Shanghai Paristy Daily Chemical Co., Ltd.
Paristy Daily is another professional cosmetics manufacturer. The brand’s origins date back to Taiwan, China, where it was founded in 1968. It established its production base in Shanghai in 1994. As a full-service cosmetics supplier, Shanghai Parity offers end-to-end solutions for global renowned brands. In early 2020, media reports stated that Canada-based personal care and household goods service provider Knowlton Development Corporation signed a deal to acquire Shanghai Paristy Daily Chemical Co., Ltd. Specific details of the transaction were not disclosed.
5. Suzhou Ante Cosmetic Co., Ltd
Founded in 2012, Suzhou Ante is a prominent local cosmetics OEM manufacturer in China. The company made its way into the capital market in just four years. Its financial statements show that annual revenue surpassed 100 million yuan in 2017. For a domestic OEM that focuses purely on makeup contract production, hitting this revenue milestone is quite unusual. This achievement stems from two key strengths: the company boasts distinct expertise in lip makeup, and it also serves as a major OEM partner for the Watsons group.
Financial records indicate that three core cosmetic lines Watsons entrusted to Ante for production contributed more than 50% of the company’s total revenue in 2015 and 2016. Beyond Watsons, Ante has built solid partnerships with a wide range of renowned domestic and international brands, including Guerlain, L’Oréal, AstraZeneca, H&M, Periya, Forever 21, Flamingo and TONYMOLY.
Ante also delivers strong performance in R&D. To date, it has obtained 2 invention patents and 10 utility model patents, with another 15 patent applications currently pending.
6. GUANG DONG 3 INS Technology Co., Ltd.
Guangdong 3 INS Technology is another reputable makeup OEM manufacturer in the sector. The company has made substantial investments in cosmetic R&D and set up five joint laboratories across France, Germany, South Korea and Jakarta.
Its R&D team has long partnered with Fortune Global 500 companies to create high-end, premium products. Founded in 2003, Sheencolor Biotech has long dominated overseas markets with its strong R&D and manufacturing capabilities. The company exports its products globally to countries including Italy, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, and the Netherlands. 8. Shanghai Aonly Manufacturing Pens Co., Ltd.
Shanghai Aonly is widely recognized as the industry leader in eyebrow pencils. With over 20 years of experience in eyebrow pencil R&D and production, it ranks among the top manufacturers for eyebrow pencil contract production. The eyebrow pencils from Watsons’ Bone Collagen line, along with similar products for numerous well-known domestic and international brands, are all manufactured by Aonly. Earlier this year, the pandemic caused a drop in order volumes. Meanwhile, demand for developing hit products has grown stronger. An increasing number of supply chain manufacturers are focusing on bestseller design and shifting toward the OBM model. Short for Original Brand Manufacturer, the OBM model means contract producers launch and run their own brands. Clients simply provide a brand name, and the manufacturer delivers one-stop services covering brand consulting, design and full production.
Traditionally, running an OBM business required a comprehensive marketing network, which entailed high channel development costs and far more investment than standard OEM and ODM operations. Additionally, it could create conflicts with existing OEM/ODM clients. To protect the interests of major partners, most contract manufacturers were reluctant to expand into OBM.
